Intermediate Backcountry Ski or Snowshoe

This is a cabin maintenance work weekend. Attendees are limited to volunteers and their guests. Attendees are responsible for minor cabin maintenance activities including checking smoke detectors, wood supply, making kindling, rodent control, cleaning the cabin and any repairs as identified. 

This is a Friday and Saturday night stay in the historic Tilly Jane A-Frame cabin. Park at the Tilly Jane Sno-park parking area. You’ll backcountry ski, split board, or snowshoe to the FOTJC-managed shelter on the northeast side of Mt. Hood, a 3 mile ski or snowshoe with a 1,900-foot gain up the Tilly Jane Ski Trail to the cabin at 5,700 feet elevation. Experienced intermediate skiing skills with turning ability, good physical condition and navigation/route finding skills using map, compass or GPS. Climbing skins are REQUIRED if skiing.

Participants carry their own gear, including sleeping bags, sleeping pad, toilet paper, and food for all meals. Water is obtained from the Tilly Jane Creek or by melting snow. We have a wood stove with plenty of firewood, pots for heating water or melting snow, and propane lignts with one propane canister provided per weekend. Participants should also bring their own cooking stove and pots for meal preparation and an extra propane canister if they would like more light.

Please Note: No DOGS are allowed in this cabin.

Trip Limit: 15 people max, Open to 2025 Friends of Tilly Jane Volunteers.

Cost: Free. First come, first served.
