FOTJC is leading a trail enhancement project in conjunction with the US Forest Service (USFS). The purpose of this project is to continue a long-term trail solution for the current water-soaked or “swampy” section of the historic ski trail. Current conditions are year-round, and especially noticeable during the ski/snow seasons.
This puncheon extension will traverse two sections of trail that pass through a wetland area. The spans will each measure roughly 15 feet in length and will be 6 feet wide to meet historic standards and accommodate individuals during winter recreation activities (skis, snowboards, snowshoes, etc.). We will grade the area with gravel and native materials to make for a smooth pass for travelers when there is snow.
To participate:
This is physically demanding work, please come prepared
Volunteers must wear sturdy waterproof boots, work gloves, eye protection, and long pants
Volunteers must dress for swampy conditions and for ALL KINDS OF WEATHER
Please bring a refillable water bottle and a lunch
All volunteers earn a FREE WEEKEND stay at the Tilly Jane A-Frame, Winter 2026-27 during our volunteer maintenance weekends. We will have drinking water and other FREE beverages available for all volunteers during the event. Safety equipment including hard hats, eye protection, etc. will be provided in limited quantities.
